Linden Soccer Avenges Earlier Loss--Advances to District Finals
Earlier this season, the Eagle soccer team lost a heart-breaker to Metro League rival Fenton after letting a lead escape them in the final minutes of the game.  The team must have remembered that game as they came out with fierce determination tonight to avenge that loss by a score of 3-1 and advance to the District Finals.  The first half was a well-played defensive game by both teams with the half ending with no score.  Karrah Varner got things started for the Eagles off a great kick from the left side to score the first goal of the game.  The Eagles held on to the 1-0 lead for most of the half until Ashley Porter found the back of the net off a great pass from Mary-Kathryn Fiebernitz to go up by 2.  Shortly after that, Fiebernitz again made a stellar pass to a sprinting Samantha Thornton who drilled in the third goal for Linden.  Fenton scored with about two minutes on the clock and the game ended with Linden on top 3-1.  The Eagles will face another Metro League rival in Holly on Saturday at 11:00 for the District title game.  The game will be played on the grass field at Fenton High School.
Pre-District at Kearsley
The Eagle soccer team has advanced in district play by beating Flint Kearsley 5-0 last evening at Kearsley.  Lexi Downes recorded the shut out with three saves.  Offensively the Eagles got goals from Mary Kathryn Fiebernitz (unassisted); Samantha Thornton (from Karrah Varner); Fiebernitz (from Kelsey Brecht); and a pair of goals from Megan Harp (unassisted and from Jordan Sargent).

The varsity soccer team battled Flint Powers to a 2-2 tie in a non-league match up at Cranston Field on Monday.  The Eagles scored first early in the second half on an unassisted goal by Mary Kathryn Fiebernitz.  The team then played solid defense behind some outstanding saves by Lexi Downes in goal to keep Powers off the board.  Powers finally managed to score late in the second half to tie the game, but Linden quicky rallied back with another goal by Fiebernitz off the assist from Samantha Thornton.  Unfortunately, the Eagles could not hold Powers off as they scored very late in the game to tie the game at 2-2.
